The North Passage
The “North Passage” is a tough refugee road. It crosses the river Evros, which is a military zone, both for Greece and for Turkey, requires a long, exhausting walk through the mountain range of Rodopi, transportation by traffickers’ vehicles and illegal travel by train to the borders of North Macedonia. From there, the route continues through the Balkan countries with a final destination in Western Europe, the coveted “Promised Land”. Some succeed, many are trapped on some of the borders of the Balkan countries, and most fall victim to a dark cycle of deportations from country to country.
